Many families find themselves in unstable housing at some point in their lives. Job loss, raised rent and utility bills, family emergencies and unexpected large expenses are just some of the things that put families at risk.
Thanks to the support of the Calgary Homeless Foundation our HomeBridge program has expanded to include tips, resources and community referrals to help families keep their home or find a new home. HomeBridge focuses on preventing families from entering shelter wherever possible. The newest aspect will be an education and training program that allows us to share our learnings with a wide range of service providers in the city in an effort to assist more families to stay in their own homes, making sure that we are working toward ending family homelessness before it gets started.
“What makes HomeBridge so awesome is early intervention, getting in there before the crisis gets too big. Families used to have to wait to become homeless or wait to get into a shelter before they could access the help they needed. When you meet a family early enough, you can help them keep their housing. You prevent stress, you prevent trauma for children, and you allow families to keep their routine, which is especially important for little kids.” – Lisa Garrisen, Director of Programs
