Director of Crisis Support Programs

REPORTS TO: CEO

HOURS:  40 hours/week

JOB PURPOSE: The position exists to provide senior leadership to Crisis Support  program areas, to be a strategic thought leader to the Society, and to ensure appropriate evidence-based directions are developed and exercised in all program areas and/or in the development of new program directions.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Graduate degree in the Human Services field, or undergraduate degree with additional relevant experience
  • Minimum of 8 years managing varied and complex programs
  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position overseeing leadership staff
  • Minimum of 5 years planning and developing programs, overseeing implementation, and guiding evaluation

  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of budgeting and financial tracking
  • A proven track record in managing and administering a group of programs with a broad set of administrative responsibilities
  • A deep understanding of the human services environment, with a particular focus on supporting children and families
  • Experience developing and implementing strategies and plans, and overseeing prevention, early intervention and crisis support initiatives
  • Experience in program design and development
  • Experience developing program logic models; leading and developing an evaluation framework and an understanding of evidence-based practice
  • Experience hiring and mentoring staff, coaching and evaluating performance, setting team goals and achieving results while maintaining an inclusive, collaborative leadership style
  • Able to work well with people with a very wide diversity of demographic and cultural characteristics
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain strong collaborative community partnerships
  • In-depth understanding of and experience with client data base systems and paperless service delivery
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills
  • Ability to impact change at a systems level

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee the CCS Crisis Support Programs stream of operations, and related areas of activity, including:
    • Crisis Nursery – crisis respite care
    • Triage, Admission & Assessment 
    • Family Housing Support
    • Family Mental Health Crisis Support
    • Indigenous and Diversity Strategies
    • CCS Volunteer Program
    • CCS Client Data Base
  2. Participate as an active member of the Society’s Executive Management Committee
  3. Provide leadership in the Children’s Cottage strategic planning processes and operational planning, including program budget development and program management
  4. Take a lead role in developing the agency Indigenous and Diversity strategies 
  5. Ensure sound fiscal management of programs and support team Leads to operate programs within budget
  6. Effectively supervise, coach, develop and delegate to a strong team of program leaders
  7. Manage critical timelines, ensure deliverables, and meet deadlines
  8. Assist managers with setting priorities and developing action plans
  9. Engage and work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, funders, and board members
  10. Identify opportunities for new programs and projects and help prepare funding applications
  11. Ensure and implement a robust program evaluation model
  12. Support the smooth operation of the agency’s client data base and the implementation of paperless practice
  13. Prepare and submit program description documents required by funders to establish contracts (e.g. Schedule A’s or similar documents)
  14. Prepare and submit all required program reports as per contract directions to funders and other partners 
  15. Provide interim and annual program reports to the Board 
  16. Assist with revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and the growth of Children’s Cottage Society through public speaking, report writing, and attending events as necessary.
  17. Participates in community committees to support the Society’s goals and directions 
  18. Inform and maintain policies relative to program directions
  19. Maintain accreditation and funder standards, and lead accreditation reviews 
  20. Participate in on-call rotation
  21. Provide back up for Program Managers in their absence
  22. Provide support to leadership team around HR related issues and staff performance. 
  23. Coordinate an integrated service delivery model that ensures all families are connected to the right programs and have access to the supports they need
  24. Provide coverage for the CEO as needed 
  25. Other duties relevant to the position, as may be assigned by the CEO 

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Be mobile by moving oneself from place to place quickly and easily, including walking and climbing stairs
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time 
  • Ability to sit at a desk and use a computer for long periods of time
  • Repeat various motions with the wrists, hands, and fingers
  • Drive to other locations in varying weather conditions
  • Be subjected to outside environmental conditions during events – e.g. exposure to hot and cold weather 
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds in weight 
  • Must be able to stand, squat, walk, kneel, bend, grasp, climb, push and pull 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position also requires

  • Personal use of a vehicle
  • A police security clearance and child welfare clearance must be completed and renewed every three years with results satisfactory to CCS in order to become and remain employed with the organization.
