The Children’s Cottage Society is a charitable agency established in Calgary in 1986. Overview of the position

This role is a significant position with the Fund Development team accountable for the overall leadership, management, and growth of Children’s Cottage Society internal and external community events portfolio.

This position is primarily based at the Children’s Cottage Administrative office, located at our Child & Family Centre, 1804 Home Road NW. The position is 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (including a 30-minute paid lunch break) but with availability to work outside of normal hours when required. Salary for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 per year. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational and professional requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area and/or 2+ years of direct experience in fund development
  • Proven track record of successful goal achievements in event fundraising  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain relationships with sponsors, donors, volunteers, committees, peers and support staff
  • Familiarity with current trends surrounding events and event fundraising
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven public speaking abilities
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in all Microsoft Office programs 
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software is an asset. Experience with a similar data base management system will be considered

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the planning, execution and growth of both the internal and external community events portfolio,
  • Develop strategies and oversee the management and growth of all external community events and partnerships (third party fundraisers),
  • Be the development team primary liaison with AGLC’ Leading, managing and monitoring all AGLC regulated activities such as licensing, raffles, casinos, bingos,   
  • Maintain current knowledge of development trends to provide event strategy for current and future events. i.e. sponsorship, licensing, cause marketing and gift in-kind,
  • Manage all aspects of supplier relationships related to events,
  • Lead contact for all sponsorships related to internal and external community events,
  • Coordinate and participate on project teams, as required for any internal and external community groups,
  • Lead event planning meetings with internal and external community events,
  • Provide tours and presentations to community stakeholder groups,
  • Lead annual community fundraising campaigns and work cross-functionally with all other CCS teams and channels,
  • Coordinate necessary sponsorship recognition and stewardship through the development of sponsorship fulfillment reporting,
  • Lead, manage and engage with volunteers and/or committees where required encouraging community outreach and maximize any fundraising opportunities.
  • Create new and innovative approaches to event fundraising which help maximize revenue opportunities at events i.e. on-site fundraising opportunities, attendee engagement, unique sponsorships, etc,
  • Work directly with Marketing and Communications on the development of marketing and promotional strategies for all internal and external community events.
  • Assist with the research, writing and submission of potential grants when required.

  • A Criminal Record Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required prior to employment.
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
