The Children’s Cottage Society, established in Calgary in 1986, provides crisis nursery, community respite, and family support programs to more than 3,500 children a year. The Society’s mission is to “Build strong children and safe, nurturing families through prevention programs and support services” and our vision is “Resilient children blossom in healthy families.”
The Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care for up to 3 nights for up to 20 children under the age of 9 when their families are in crisis and have no other alternatives for childcare help.
The Child Care Worker will be a strong team player in our organization who is responsible for the day-to-day care of the children staying at the Crisis Nursery. This role assists with the planning of daily activities for the children according to their developmental needs.
WORK LOCATION:
Child and Family Centre – 1804 Home Road NW T3B 1H1
HOURS/WAGE:
- FT is a 4 on/ 4 off shift rotation of 10-hour shifts. ($40,150 per year)
- PT is a 4 on/ 4 off shift rotation of 5-hour shifts (4:00 pm – 9:00 pm or 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm). ($20,075 per year)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements
- Level 1 Early Childhood Educator Certificate (ECE); Level 2 or 3 preferred
- Three years’ experience caring for children in a professional environment.
- First Aid (Level C)
- Completion of a Police Check WITH Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.
- Must have the following trainings completed within the first 6 months of employment: Suicide Intervention, Self-Harm, Indigenous Awareness, DEI Training.
- Completion of Brain Story preferred
- Opportunity to work additional shifts if needed, including Awake Overnight and Day Shifts
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Benchmark level 5 required).
- Proficient use of computers including ability to document using a database.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Providing quality care for children who are newborn to age 9.
- Maintaining a safe environment.
- Assisting children in their daily routines.
- Assisting children to cope with feelings of separation from their parents.
- Documentation of children’s daily activities.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- A Police Information Check, WITH a vulnerable sector search, is required upon commencement of employment (Note: it is recommended to apply for your Police Check early as to avoid delays in Employment. Please refer to: Police Information Checks).
- A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment (Note: it is recommended to apply early to avoid delays in Employment. Please refer to Child Intervention Checks Alberta)
- Applicants must provide proof of qualifications prior to Job Offer. Education obtained from out of country must have documentation of equivalency.
- Must be able to work in Canada.
