Overview of the position

The FNMI Liaison provides coordination services for Indigenous families who access CCS programs and who are also connected to their home community Stoney Nakoda Nation. The purpose of this role is to serve as a liaison between programs and services in the city and in Stoney Nakoda Nation to ensure families receive the support families may need to be successful and resilient.

This position will also assist in supporting CCS Indigenous Strategy

This position is primarily located at our Child & Family Centre, 1804 Home Road NW. The position is 36 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (including a 30-minute paid lunch break), with a flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational and professional requirements

  • Minimum Diploma in Human Services Field. 
  • Experience working with Indigenous families. 
  • Maturity and experience in successfully working with infants, young children and parents. 
  • Experience working in the community. 
  • Valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle. 
  • Solid understanding of healthy child development. 
  • Valid standard first aid certificate 
  • Current Police Clearance and Child Intervention Record checks with satisfactory results. 
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours to meet the needs of a family. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates skills in supporting families and reducing family stress,  
  • Demonstrates knowledge of family dynamics, child development, family problems and stresses of parenting, substance abuse, and domestic violence from an Indigenous lens.  
  • Able to work from a strength-based approach to supporting families.  
  • Ability to work as part of team and independently.  
  • Skill in crisis intervention, teaching, listening and basic problem solving.  
  • Ability to recognize the need for professional intervention, to be non-judgmental, to be motivated to learn from direct experience as well as from training and supervision, and to manage workload and responsibilities with a minimum of supervision. 
  • Demonstrates proficiency in working with a variety of computer programs and databases including ETO (Efforts to Outcomes). 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to develop relationships with the Indigenous community.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working with the other programs in Calgary and surrounding area to develop relationships that will assist Indigenous families that utilize CCS programs.
  • Provides coordination for families who receive services both in the city and Stoney Nakoda community. Helps to ensure that parents and children receive the supports they need.
  • Establishes and maintains a trusting relationship with families by providing regular contact through home visits, community meetings, phone calls, and virtual visits.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with parents who may be facing multiple challenges.
  • Supporting and encouraging self-reliance parents through making appointments for doctors, social service agencies, etc. Acts as a liaison between families and other community agencies. Teaches families these skills.
  • A willingness and comfort level in working with Indigenous families.
  • Work with the Indigenous Strategy and development manager

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • A Criminal Record Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required prior to employment.
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
  • Proof of Educational requirements, at time of interview
