The Children’s Cottage Society, established in Calgary in 1986, provides crisis nursery, community respite, and family support programs to more than 3,500 children a year. The Society’s mission is to “Build strong children and safe, nurturing families through prevention programs and support services” and our vision is “Resilient children blossom in healthy families.”
Hours: 35 hour work week, Monday through Friday.
Salary: $20.00 per hour
*This is a Temporary Role for an 8 Week Period as part of the
Canada Summer Jobs Program*
Qualifications:
- Completed High School Education
- Interest in working with families or families with complex needs is an asset.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification
- Current Suicide Intervention training certification
- Indigenous Awareness and competency working with families from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Teams, and Outlook
- Good written and oral communication skills required
- Current Police Clearance and Child Intervention Record checks with satisfactory results
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Skilled at connecting with people, asking questions and working both independently and as part of a team
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to meet goals and expectations
- Demonstrate a commitment to learning through the ongoing achievement of personal and professional goals
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours; ability to travel to different locations on an as needed basis
- A positive role model who is energetic, creative, motivated and fun
Responsibilities:
- Develop summer programs to support the health and wellness of the children and families at the Crisis Nursery and participating in the Family Resource Network.
- Coordinate and operate programs on daily basis throughout the summer to keep children of all ages engaged and busy.
- Communicate with staff and families about programs and about the child’s participation
- Work in collaboration with volunteers to operate summer programs.
- Ensure policies and procedures of Children’s Cottage Society are being implemented.
- Adhere to, respect, and promote the vision, mission, values and beliefs of the Society.
- Work collaboratively with the staff and partners of the Society.
- Ensure that program delivery and safety standards are maintained, and that every child has a positive and rewarding experience. This will require lots of hands-on involvement teaching the kids.
- Administrative tasks; entering client information on participation of events into the agency database, Efforts to Outcomes.
- Other related duties as required.
Pre-employment Requirements:
- A Police Information Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required prior to employment.
- A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
