After more than seven years of dedicated community support, we are thrilled to announce the successful completion of its $26.5 million Caring Together Campaign. This milestone, made possible by a transformational anonymous gift through the Calgary Foundation, marks a historic moment for the organization and the families it serves across Calgary.
The campaign was launched in 2017 to raise funds for the construction of the Child & Family Centre on Home Road NW. With just over $5 million remaining to reach the goal, this final gift closes the campaign and begins a new era of support, prevention, and early intervention for vulnerable children and families.
“This gift is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together. The completion of this campaign fulfills a long-held vision for our Child & Family Centre, and we’re deeply grateful to every donor who helped bring it to life. Together, we’ve built a place where families can find support, stability, and hope.” Danielle Ladouceur, CEO, Children’s Cottage Society
The new Child & Family Centre, officially opened in April 2024, brings our key programs together under one roof; including the Crisis Nursery, Nurturing Newborns, Family Resource Centre, Home Visitation, and the New Family Mental Wellness Hub. The Centre is designed to support 40% more children, ensuring that no family is turned away in their time of need.
“I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of Calgarians, and The Children’s Cottage Society is truly grateful for all the incredible support to help build our Child & Family Centre.” Rae Fehr, Director of Development
An anonymous donor, giving through the Calgary Foundation, has chosen to invest in the future of Calgary by ensuring families have a safe, welcoming, and supportive space to access help and build resilience. Their gift represents a deep commitment to prevention-focused care and the belief that every child deserves to thrive.
“The Children’s Cottage Society plays a critical role in our community, supporting children and families who are experiencing crisis. Calgary Foundation is pleased to support this vital capital campaign, facilitating philanthropic support through numerous contributions, including a $5 million gift from an anonymous donor to retire the mortgage.” Allison Schulz, Vice President, Capacity Building, Calgary Foundation.
To mark the completion of the Caring Together Campaign, the Children’s Cottage Society held a heartfelt celebration at the new Child & Family Centre. CEO Danielle Ladouceur spoke about the transformational impact of this journey, and longtime board member Dinesh Dattani shared personal reflections from his remarkable 12-year tenure, tracing the campaign’s roots from a bold vision to a fully realized space for families. In attendance was Bret Hart, along with many supporters who helped make this dream a reality. The event concluded with a symbolic and joyful moment; Danielle and Denesh, side by side, shredded the Cottage’s “mortgage” in front of the crowd, officially marking the end of the campaign and the beginning of a debt-free future. It was a powerful and celebratory close to a campaign that has forever changed the landscape of family support in Calgary.
